1. Taking Parts That Can Be Sold For Rebuilding
There are many parts that can be resold to be rebuilt. If you have ever gone to get spare parts and got a deposit on an old part, this is why. Alternators, pumps and carburetors can all be rebuilt. You can remove these parts from your car and take them to an auto parts center to get cash for them. There are also services that specialize in building these parts, and they will often buy these parts from you.
2. Removing Parts That Have More Valuable Metals
Many modern cars also have components that are made from more valuable materials like aluminum. You can remove things like heads and transmissions that are made of aluminum to get more money for them. Catalytic converters are also valuable because they have platinum in them. If you are selling a catalytic converter, do not open it before taking it in for recycling because many recycling centers will not accept them in this condition. With the aluminum parts, make sure that you remove any steel components before taking them in to be recycled.
3. Saving Alloy Custom Parts That Are More Valuable
If you have a car with custom parts like alloy wheels, these parts can also be valuable. You will want to sell them separately from other parts on the car. Some cars may have alloys for things like custom engine parts with chrome finishes. If these parts are metals like galvanized or stainless steel, they may be worth a little more than common steel. They will have the same characteristics as non-ferrous metals, such as not being magnetic.
